Pupils at Clydach Primary School have been spreading the word about Peace Mala after learning about its message of tolerance for all faiths.

Year 3 pupils at St Joseph’s have become Peace Mala Ambassadors to promote the movement.

They were recently visited by dignitaries towards the end of term to congratulate them on their work.

One of the young ambassadors Harry Beale said, “I have really enjoyed being a Peace Mala Ambassador this year. We have taken part in so many different activities – the launch of the Symbolic Doves of Peace in the Peace Mala garden, the Youth Service for World Peace when we received the Interfaith Peace Dove and the Native Canadian Day when we learned about native spiritual traditions. We had a wonderful time.”

The youngsters have also made their own Peace Mala bracelets and learned about the message of the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would wish them to treat you.

They have also performed presentations for parents, governors and the whole school and have made a short film and animation about the message of Peace Mala which aims to cut though all forms of prejudice, to confront bullying and to support human rights.

Headteacher Juliet Stack commented, “I would like to thank all the staff and pupils at St. Joseph’s for being part of our journey to gain Peace Mala Accreditation. It is a credit to the school community that we have achieved this in only six months.

“At St. Joseph’s we celebrate difference and the uniqueness of the individual. We believe strongly in the central message of Peace Mala which is the Golden Rule found in all compassionate faiths.

“We thank Pam Evans for her tireless work with Peace Mala. We also thank all our visitors who came to celebrate with us today.”
