Peace Mala Endorsement
Former Secretary of the United Nations Association in Wales and Director of the Welsh Centre for International Affairs
Stephen Thomas was Director of the Welsh Centre for International Affairs (WCIA) from 1996 until 2010. As part of his role there he was also Secretary of the United Nations Association in Wales and of the Council for Education in World Citizenship-Cymru.
The WCIA is based in the historic Temple of Peace in Cardiff's civic centre, and thereby plays a role in hosting a number of other internationalist organisations and events.
Stephen Thomas worked in health education and teaching, in London and in Paris, prior to joining Save the Children Fund in 1988. He was responsible for the management of aid programmes with them in Mozambique, Somalia and Angola for 4 years. Between 1992 and 1996 he worked as Africa Grants Officer for Comic Relief in London.
Stephen has known of Peace Mala since its beginning and has been of enormous support and encouragement to the project. Thanks to Stephen, Peace Mala was launched in the WCIA/UNA Wales Temple of Peace in 2002. The Temple of Peace continues to be the venue for the Peace Mala International Awards for Youth.
This is Stephen's endorsement of Peace Mala:
The work that Peace Mala undertakes with young people is important. It is vital to show them that they form part of a common humanity and of one world-wide community. Peace Mala's Youth Awards in particular complement what we and other bodies are doing in the field of global citizenship.

Mae'r gwaith mae'r Peace Mala yn ei gyflawni gyda phobl ifanc yn bwysig. Mae'n hanfodol i ddangos iddynt eu bod yn rhan o ddynoliaeth gyffredin ac o un gymuned gyfanfydol. Mae Gwobrau Ieuenctid y Peace Mala yn enwedig yn cyfannu'r hyn yr ydym ninnau a mudiadau eraill yn gwneud ym maes dinasyddiaeth fyd-eang.
