GBC Representative for the UK; ISKCON UK Management Council Member; Initiating Spiritual Master
His Holiness Sivarama Swami was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1949. His family emigrated to Canada where some years later in 1970 he first came in contact with Srila Prabhupada's teachings, via his transcendental books.
He became an initiated disciple of His Divine Grace in 1973 and accepted the renounced order of life in 1979. He was requested to accept the responsibility of GBC member in 1986 while serving in the UK.
He has been serving ISKCON in the UK in various capacities since 1980 and took responsibility for preaching in Hungary from 1988. Currently Sivarama Swami continues as a member of the GBC of ISKCON and continues in his responsibility for leading their efforts in the United Kingdom and Hungary.
Sivarama Swami is also well known for his deep knowledge of vaishnava literature, and has written several books about Krishna consciousness himself.
In June 2003, Sivarama Swami announced his intention to resign as UK & Ireland GBC representative as from Gaura Purnima 2004.
This is what Swami has said about the Peace Mala:
"Please accept my blessings, all glories to Srila Prabhupada. I do wish you the best in developing a mood of religious tolerance in Wales and world-wide. Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita describes this formula for peace in the following way:
'A person in full consciousness of Me, knowing Me to be the ultimate beneficiary of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attains peace from the pangs of material miseries.'
In other words, if the world accepts God as:
1. The ultimate goal of all activities
2. The supreme proprietor
3. The ultimate friend
They will then know true peace. ISKCON has been established for this purpose and thus we are on the same track. May Krishna bless your endeavours".
